Melinda Wetzel

Mindy Wetzel became a lawyer in order to do one thing: help people. She cares immensely about her clients and their health and well-being and takes pride in being able to walk her clients through the complicated process of seeking legal recourse when they’ve been injured due to no fault of their own.

Based at our headquarters in Austin, Mindy focuses her practice on motor vehicle accidents, dog bites, premises liability, burn injuries, and many other personal injury matters. Her favorite aspect of working at Zinda Law Group, however, is the opportunity she gets to make her clients’ lives better.
Mindy was born and raised in Indianapolis and moved to Chicago when she was 18. She graduated with honors from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University with a degree in Musical Theatre Performance, and she spent three years after college as a professional actress and makeup artist in Chicago before eventually deciding she wanted to work harder to better the lives of the people in her community.

Mindy went on to earn her juris doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago. During law school, Mindy distinguished herself as an excellent advocate, winning multiple awards from Fordham University and the University of Houston for her written and oral advocacy skills as a member of DePaul’s Appellate Moot Court Society. Mindy was also elected as Vice President of the Appellate Moot Court Society and Chairperson of DePaul’s 2013 National Cultural Heritage Moot Court Competition. She was named to the Dean’s List multiple times and was selected by DePaul Law faculty to be a member of the Order of the Barristers.

Before joining the team at Zinda Law Group in May 2019, Mindy practiced law for five years in Chicago. She represented multi-employer pension and welfare funds in ERISA disputes in federal courts throughout the Midwest and then went on to represent public school districts, community colleges, municipalities, and the City of Chicago in a myriad of discrimination and civil rights lawsuits in state and federal courts in Illinois. Mindy also spent a considerable amount of time representing her clients in child custody disputes and guardian ad litem proceedings as a volunteer attorney with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.

Outside of being a lawyer, Mindy also volunteered with several theatre companies in the city, including The House Theatre of Chicago, Prologue Theatre Company, Lookingglass Theatre Company, and The Neo-Futurists. Mindy moved to Texas in March of 2019 with her partner and their two cats, to escape the brutal winters of Chicago, to eat more tacos, and to support her partner in his career as a videogame developer. She is a certified yoga instructor and spends her time outside the office exploring new restaurants, trying to get a tan, and practicing yoga.
